Memo specialises in offering alternative, exciting and innovative training to children, young people and professionals wishing to work alongside young people. Within this work we look at ways to co-ordinate training that encompasses young peoples learning needs, growth and personal development.
We are experienced grass root youth workers and pride ourselves in our style and delivery of issue-based training. We have a unique and riveting way of providing children and young people with new and unique opportunities, and offer alternative ways of learning.
We often use materials designed by ourselves, which are interactive, participative, stimulate discussions and encourage group work.
(Examples of our work are currently being used within the Bradford Youth Service and have proved to be valuable resources, i.e., Gender resource pack, Race resource pack and also the Transgender exercises)
We have been working within the Youth sector in both a voluntary and a professional capacity for a joint period of 18 years. Within this time we have identified that there are gaps within service provision, especially with regards to providing training for young people and the importance of consultation with young people in the process. Recent government initiatives are looking more at supporting and developing young people needs on a personal level, and ensuring that young people where possible do not slip through the net. Memo feels that young people live in one educational system, that is to cater for all young people and this is why we feel many young people are failing within it. This is where Memo hopes to fill the gap, as formal or informal educators within a variety of youth or community settings.
We have had vast and wide experience working within communities of deprivation and poverty, and have worked along side young people to increase their awareness of the issues affecting their lives. We feel that it is very important to demonstrate to young people that they are worth working with and that there are opportunities open to them but must understand that it is a two way process. Ensuring that they have greater equity in their own communities.
We have given many young people beneficial learning experiences, residential opportunities, self-directed chances and moved many young people on in their lives.
Previous partnership with other organisations includes, the Police, Social Services, voluntary organisations, Probation, community organisations, tenants groups, Youth Service and the Educational Authority, Leeds Armley Prison. Within our work we strive hard to challenge the issues of oppression and promote equal opportunities.
